The Weekend
A three-day June weekend at a lodge on a lake in Sullivan County: Friday dinner on the porch, a lakeside ceremony on Saturday and coffee on the dock on Sunday morning.
Priya and Daniel booked the whole lodge for a weekend and asked me to be there for most of it. Many of their guests flew in from London and Chicago, so the Friday dinner on the porch was the first time a lot of the two families had met.
Friday
I photographed the welcome dinner from 6 to 9. It was mostly toasts, introductions and Daniel’s uncle explaining the lake’s fish to anyone who would listen. Those are the photos their parents ask for.
Saturday
Priya got ready with her mother and her aunts in the room above the boathouse. Her mother pinned the veil herself, which took three attempts. The ceremony was on the lawn by the water, under a canopy of four cedar poles, white muslin and marigold garlands that Priya’s cousins strung that morning. At the reception Daniel’s grandmother, who is 91, danced with Priya for most of one song.
Sunday
I came back for an hour on Sunday morning. Everyone was in jeans, mist was coming off the lake, and the two of them sat on the end of the dock with coffee. It is one of the hours from 2025 I’m proudest of.

Our families had never been in one place before. Nell photographed all three days and somehow got everyone, including the cousins who hid from every camera at every other wedding.
